Phuket Art Galleries

(Phuket, Thailand)

Picture of central galleries and shopsThe island of Phuket is home to a large and extremely varied selection of art galleries. Around the island you will find many commercial galleries selling a range of Thai paintings, colourful prints and local Asian handicrafts.

Further paintings can often be found within the lobbies of prominent hotels, such as both the Holiday Inn hotel next to Patong Beach, and also at the rather upmarket Le Meridien Phuket Beach Resort, which is located on the western coast, between Karon Beach and Patong Beach.

Where to Find the Best Galleries

Art galleries are scattered all over Phuket, with a number located on the northern side of the island, within both the Bangtao and Surin areas. Further south, Phuket City is a good place to purchase paintings or framed photographs, and many people find these are the perfect way to remember their visit.

Photo of city galleryThe most popular art galleries in Phuket City include the Sarasil Art Gallery along Phang Nga Road, the Rinda Magical Art Studio on Yaowarat Road, and also the Phuket Fine Art Gallery on Thepkasattri Road. Many further galleries await you along the winding backstreets and alleys around the city, along with jewellers and boutiques. Nearby Rawai is also home to an up-and-coming arts scene, where you will find the highly acclaimed Rinda Studio.

On the south-western side of Phuket, a number of good galleries stand out, selling reproductions and prints, both within the resorts of Kata and Karon. Look out for the Chao Phraya River Club Art Gallery, which can be found at the Boathouse, off Patak Road and right next to Kata Beach. This gallery is especially popular with visiting tourists and exhibitions nurture local artists from the island. You will also find a good selection of traditional fabrics and silks here.

Patong is a lively spot on the western coast of Phuket and those looking for art galleries here will have plenty to choose from. Home grown talent is nurtured at a number of venues around Patong, alongside speciality shops selling antiquities and unusual ceramics. Particularly notable is the World of Paintings, which resides on the ground floor of the popular Grand Tropicana Hotel, along Ruamjai Road, where a range of oriental paintings are often showcased.

Still on the western coast but further north, Bangtoa offers a number of art galleries. In particular, the Laguna area is a good place to start, around the Plaza shopping centre.
